Grade Notations

Passing Grades

A (Exceptional)
B (Superior)
C (Satisfactory)
D (Low pass)

These grades may be modified by a plus (+) or minus (-).  See "Course, Repeating a" for information about repeating a course if you earn a D grade.

P (Passing, issued when course was taken on pass/fail option)

Failing Grades

F (Failing)
U (Failing, issued when course was taken on pass/fail option)

Other Grade Notations

I (Incomplete, issued when course work is incomplete)
X (Absent from final examination)
   
Z

(Satisfactory completion of 1st half of a two-semester course sequence; final grade for both courses is assigned at the end of the second course in the sequence.)

 
WE* (Withdrawn due to error in enrollment)
WP*

(Withdrawn passing, student was passing at time of course withdrawal)

WF* (Withdrawn failing, student was failing at time of course withdrawal)
   
N (No grade submitted by the instructor)

*NOTE: Beginning in Fall 2008, the grades of WP, WF, and WE will no longer be used. Instead the notation W will be recorded whenever a student is granted permission to withdraw from a course.
